Canada has delayed its plan to require carriers with incoming shipments to submit manifest information electronically to the Canada Border Services Agency, the Canadian Trucking Alliance said.
The Advanced Commercial Information Highway eManifest program was scheduled to begin in June, but CBSA said Thursday that it would delay implementation until September.
The program was not ready for implementation, CTA said, promting groups such as CTA to urge officials to delay it.
“CTA supports getting it right the first time with realistic deadlines,” David Bradley, chief executive officer of CTA, said in a statement.
Delaying the highway portion of the ACI program delays related projects targeted at importers, freight forwarders and railroads, CTA said. CBSA has not announced a timeline for those projects.
